Why this foldable lobster net should be part of your lobster gear collection
The foldable lobster net is one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I guess that is because it is so unique and convenient.
The foldable lobster net was created and manufactured by Ed Mark. Ed is a South Florida diver I met years ago while lobster hunting on my beach dives.
A small group of us would get in just before sunrise when the lobsters were still crawling around. The excitement sure would wake us up! Swimming back to shore with a bag full of lobsters before the work day began was a great way to start the day.
Many lobster hunters like to use a lobster snare which is basically a stick with a loop which is suitable for capturing them in deep holes and hard to reach areas, but if you are like me, you like to catch them the old fashion way of net and tickle stick.
Common lobster nets that I’ve used tend to be bulky and obstructing. It is just one more gadget that can easily get tangled with the numerous items I tend to carry. This net folds up neatly and is protected in a nice sturdy plastic casing. This feature helps to streamline your gear configuration.

To further reduce the number of items I would normally clip to my BCD, I have attached the plastic case to my lobster bag with tie wraps. It is easy to reach when I need to use it as well as easy to replace when done. I also like the fact that when I grab my lobster hotel, I know the net automatically comes with it. I don’t have to worry about forgetting it at home or leaving it on the boat accidentally.
Another great feature of this net is that the material used to hold the webbing is bendable which is ideal when trying to reshape it to fit into a hole. Adding a clip to the handle of the net helps to secure it to the case for added support. The clip also allows you to attach the net to your BCD quickly to free up your hand after use.
Re-closing the net can be a little tricky but once shown the maneuver, you can execute it quite effortlessly. Once closed and in the case, you don’t have to worry about it getting tangled or caught on the ladder when getting back on the boat.
The foldable lobster net is very well-made, durable and dependable which is why it is one of my favorite Scuba items.
